Francisca Valenzuela, one of the most powerful and versatile voices in Latin music, unveils “Raíces,” her new single that closes a year filled with successes and highlights her continued artistic and personal growth. Written alongside Francisco Victoria, this intimate confession transforms into a mystical and emotional anthem about identity, lineage, and inner strength.
“‘Raíces’ is a tribute to the inner journey and the home within,” shares Francisca. “I have often searched outside of myself instead of within. This song celebrates the feminine lineage that sustains, inspires, and cares for us. The more I grow upward and outward into the world, the more I need to extend my roots downward, anchoring myself to my depth and clearing the mental weeds to find my center.” This profound message resonates in the song’s very structure, blending poetry with Latin American sounds such as the cuatro and bombo legüero, creating an immersive sonic space that invites introspection.
Francisca describes the song’s creation as “a visceral, eyes-closed confession with urgent and profound lyrics.” This vulnerability is amplified in the accompanying music video, directed by Camila Grandi. “I wanted the video to be a theatrical, feminist, and emotional journey,” explains Francisca. Inspired by artists like Cecilia Vicuña and Pina Bausch, the video celebrates feminine lineage through Latin American textiles, earthy tones, and a minimalist aesthetic. The central image, Francisca’s maternal belly, symbolizes continuity, creation, and strength, uniting past, present, and future generations.
“This message is even more relevant in a world where migration and rebuilding identity are shared experiences," reflects Francisca. “I believe many of us, for one reason or another, migrate, move, and seek to keep our roots, identity, and essence present.” “Raíces” embraces this connection between the personal and the universal, making the song an anthem for those seeking to ground themselves in their own history.
The release of “Raíces” caps an impressive 2024 for Francisca Valenzuela. Her album Adentro not only received Latin GRAMMY® nominations but was also recognized as one of the best Latin releases of the year. Her tour of over 50 concerts across Latin America and the United States solidified her position as one of the most beloved and respected artists of her generation. Additionally, her platform Ruidosa Fest made its debut at the iconic Lincoln Center in New York, reaffirming her commitment to empowering women in music and redefining the cultural landscape.
